Culture Night Belfast 2017

Posted by Rebecca Houston on

This year marks the ninth year of Culture Night in Belfast; bringing together over 300 FREE events across over 150 locations in Belfast City Centre in a single day – the 22nd September.  Events start at 1pm and finish up at 10pm.

Belfast has incredibly rich cultural diversity – this year’s theme for Culture Night is urban ecology; to celebrate the diverse range of interconnecting businesses, organisations and individuals across the city who all contribute to making our wee city such a fantastic place to live and visit!  Our city continues to grow and expand and I am proud that my small business can be part of it. The message that Culture Night wishes to spread this year is ‘We Can Be Better’ (#weCNBmore) – use Culture Night as an opportunity to try something new, be that little bit more adventurous and most of all have fun!

You can expect live music, cabaret performances, art displays, yoga, creative workshops, circus performances, talks and tours of the area and so much more!  It is truly unbelievable the number of talented artists and performers who will be displaying their creative skills! You can check out the full line up of events across the city at www.culturenightbelfast.com.

This blog post is going to specifically focus on what’s going on in the hot spots in my area – Rosemary Street, Lombard Street and North Street.  Remember folks all events are FREE!

Rosemary Street

Rosemary Street Church will be hosting a range of live bands and music between 6 – 10pm, including Voca Loca – songs for peace feminism and chocolate cake! Nina and Me – songs of Nina Simone and Change the World in Song – harmonies for peace, justice, inspiration and fun!

Clements coffee shop will be hosting children’s entertainment including a creative art space and cabaret performance from 1-9pm.

Fresh Garbage sees the Girl’s Rock School NI Street Takeover with their graduates and tutors performing on the street from 6-9pm.

Artcetera Studios are hosting an art display to celebrate Polish Cultural Week; Women through the Ages from 5-8pm.

Deli Lites coffee shop are hosting Stitch n’ Bitch from 3-7pm if you fancy a bit of a yarn and having a go at knitting for a good cause, making blankets for the Belfast SOS bus!

 Lombard Street

Fancy having a go at chess? Head into Café Nero and have a go with the Ulster Chess Union between 4-10pm!

Lombard House is hosting two inspiring workshops to talk about mental health between 6pm and 8.30pm.

White’s Tavern will conclude the evening from 8pm, hosting live music in their courtyard.

 North Street

The Culture Night Parade will start on Royal Avenue and pass through North Street at 4pm, featuring music, dancing and a host of colourful costumes!

Art events on North Street include more knitting from Seedhead Arts and Pollen Studios between 4pm and 10pm.  The PS2 gallery is hosting an art work exhibition called We Speak Silent (11am-9pm), Ink Monkey Studios will be showcasing local art work (6-9pm) and the Fenderesky Gallery will be hosting new art work by Tony Hill (4-10pm).

There will be a very interesting mix of music on North Street including live music by local artists at the Belfast City Vineyard, from 5-10pm and a bit of Smokin’ Hot Rockabilly at the Tivoli Barber Shop (7.30-8.30pm) followed by a bit of live Thrash Metal with plastic swords from 9-10pm!

Hope to see you all in my area on Friday enjoying one of Belfast’s biggest nights!
